Mark every piped edge on the top and trousers. A line around the lapel and placket is not the same brief as piping around cuffs, chest pocket and trouser hems as well. Specify how much contrast should show beyond each seam.

Balance the top and trouser fit
Give the top length, button spacing and chest ease separately from waist stretch, rise and inseam. Check comfort seated as well as standing. For a relaxed woven set, sleeve and upper-back ease matter when the wearer reaches forward.
Plan set sizes before packing
Decide whether tops and bottoms ship in fixed pairs or can be bought in different sizes. Mixed sizing changes quantity planning, size labels and stock codes. Identify the sizes of both pieces on the packing instruction.
What to check on arrival
Button the top, fold the collar as worn and follow the piping around each corner. Look for twisting at the lapel notch and puckering on long edges. Wash a light body with the proposed dark piping before approving the colour combination.
